My new schedule is this: Mon-Fri days: work Tue/Thurs: training Sat: game But what am I playing you ask? Rugby! Union, not league. I'm the tallest on our team (by a head) but by no means the heaviest, so I'm playing as a lock. This means I go up in the line out (fun! Our props are Maori girls, so I'm well supported :-P), pack down in the second row for the scrum (I'm in the tight five) and generally get involved in the rucks. It's a lot of fun. I have a spectacular bruise on my leg, which makes me look tough - but it's actually unrelated (table/chair incident). Oh, and hanging out with JK is in there too.

| Update |
[03 May 2009|10:44pm] |
I hardly ever update any more. This is because most of what I do can be summarised quite quickly. Days: mon-fri: work Evenings: mon - CAD, tue- free, Wed - CAD, Thur - floorball. Weekends: mostly in sydney. But I have only 3 more weeks of CAD. What on earth will I do with all that spare time? I'm currently playing floorball. I figure that I've spent a shit load of time improving my mind in the last years, I should really improve my body for a while. yergh. must dash. xo folks

[25 Mar 2009|11:47pm] |
i signed up for 3 sets of CAD classes (each set 4 weeks, 24 hours). I am now half way through. I'm getting quicker, and I can do fun things with attributes and xrefs and such. Russian has finished. I learned the alphabet, and some basic words, but mostly it is still an insane language that makes no sense to me. This is not helped by the fact that I skipped a few classes... Oh well. Live and learn. I have discovered that sitting at a desk all day and doing no exercise means that I am really unfit. So I am riding my bike more, and hopefully finding some kind of sport to do. I like my exercise to be disguised - ideally as fun (skiing, cycling), but I'll settle for social or 'wholistic'. And something that doesn't clash with CAD. So far hockey and self defence are front runners.

| Good times |
[03 Mar 2009|09:20pm] |
Went to Sydney on the weekend. Had a great time with old friends on Saturday. Ozzie, Loki, Atticus, Suze, Mark, Yasmin. Started at Kuletos, then onto the Smutty Salsa at the sly. Ran into a few fine folks I haven't seen for a while - Linda, Bel, Alicia etc. Funniest part was running into Rosie in the bathroom. Some else came in, saw me from behind, thought I was Erin, explained thatI looked like someone Rosie used to date, and couldn't understand the hilarity that caused both Rosie and I.

| First Week |
[01 Feb 2009|04:26pm] |
|
Hmmm. Last week I joined the library, enrolled in drafting (2 nights a week, 6-9pm), enrolled in Russian (Thursday evenings), saw Milk (v good, maybe not great), attended a gay book club, saw Slumdog Millionaire (good, not great) had lunch with Gem & Rach (who works in the building next to mine) and went out on Friday with the work crew. The office can (generalising hugely here) be divided into girls under 25 (policy, admin and call centre staff) and guys over 50 (tech section), with the exception of me, and 2 others in tech who are under 30 (former cadets). I do not think that I am very old, but I am definitely too old to drink jagerbombs. Especially if you're going to drink 3 in the time I have one beer. Sheesh. I had 4 drinks and was home by 11pm, but was warned by the girls that I should definitely be up for staying out longer next week, when we have cheap department drinks from 4.30 (wearing our dress down Friday jeans - oooh). I'm already nervous.
Anyway, life is generally good. Parliament sits this week, so JK is in town, as well as a slew of activisty types. Should be interesting.

| friendship and Landmark |
[10 Jan 2009|10:09am] |
So this morning I had a friend call early. A few months previously we'd had a conversation where we'd discussed her tendency to play down her intelligence, her habit of asking for help before trying anything herself and the tendency she has to "be a princess" (her words this morning). And this morning, she tells me that she's done a course, that she wasn't ready to hear that stuff then, but she is now and that she is starting to take control of her life, starting with job interviews on Monday. Now I am happy to hear this, and I wish her the very best. I am also flattered that she was motivated enough to call and tell me she valued my friendship and caring. But I am also about 80% sure that the course was Landmark. Which means that I am a little skeptical about the long term results. I know they do great stuff identifying issues and helping people get closure, but they don't seem to give you any tools to enact long term life changes - unless you sign up for a new seminar. Hmmm. We'll see.

| house hunting in the Can |
[06 Jan 2009|10:05pm] |
So today I emailed 11 people who have share houses advertised in Canberra. 2 already gone, 2 no couples, 7 still waiting. Yuk. House hunting is bad, house hunting as 1/2 a couple (even if only 1/3-1/2 the time) is worse. Blargh. Anyone know cool folk in Canberra who want a new flatmate? I also played on iselect.com.au, which is a health insurance assessor thing. You type "female, 25, act" with this coverage, it spits out suitable matches. If you like one, you apply and the fund pays iselect or something. anyway, health insurance is hideously expensive, which is sucky. meh.

| facebook stalkering |
[05 Jan 2009|02:44pm] |
|
the weirdest thing about facebook is that i keep finding out people I know are married. Not good friends obviously, but "XY" comes up as tagged in the album "Homer and Marge get married". And you go hey, I know Marge, look at the photos and discover that half the girls photographed you know from school, but they have different surnames cause they're married now... It's very strange. Mostly that I've reached an age where people I know get married. Also, I think I am on the edge of a group that is getting married younger. So people maybe 5 years older are getting married (30) and people my age (25) are also getting married. Very peculiar.

| flea bombs, cockroaches and gastro - oh my! |
[04 Jan 2009|11:43pm] |
Really quick update of my movements flew to Sydney late pm 22nd, Dec 24 Drove to Newc's. Family friends party - advised by their 20 y.o that the Moosehead bar in Canberra serves liter cocktails. The only other thing I've been told about canberra nightlife is "Avoid the Moosehead"... Dec 25 - Lunch at restaurant. They try to poison Caroline (wheat allergy). Dec 26 - Drive to Nowra to meet T-rex's mother. Flea bombing under taken that night. Dec 27 - Watched 'Twililght' Dec 28 - Return to Sydney Dec 29 - Return car to Newcastle. Pack some stuff to come to Canberra at some stage Dec 30 - Have lunch in Newcastle. First place has shit service, so we move on. Second place serves me a chicken burger. With a complimentary FRIED COCKROACH! We get the lunch free, but I am grossed out. Back to Sydney. Dec 31 - Go to Wombeyen caves to see in the new year. Jan 1 - (really late): Dan very sick with diarrhea and vomiting. At 12:30 we decide he has to go to hospital. In Goulburn. Around an hour away. On a dirt road we don't know. 4 people go to the hospital, 3 (incl me) stay. Dan is put on a drip and kept over night. Jan 2 - (midday). Those who stayed, pack so the others can sleep (got home at 5am). We return to collect Dan. Not allowed out. Jan 3 - I return to Tassie. Dan is picked up from Goulburn. Jan 4 - I stay in bed all day and watch 'The Wire'

| Moving |
[19 Dec 2008|10:20am] |
I am wigging out a tad, cause yesterday was 4 weeks til I am in Canberra. Of those 28 days, 12 are 'holiday period' on the mainland, two are travelling (boat, melb day/night,driving to the Can). Shesh. So I get back and have 10 days to get my tail in gear and flee this place. gawd. a little full on. Just booked my last trip on the ferry. Next up, have to jump online with a pc and book the movers. then off too attempt to locate my phone (awol at Clare's place. I hope), return video and such. Love my life.

| Tomorrow! |
[11 Dec 2008|08:07pm] |
tomorrow I clean my room (so i can pretend it is usually that tidy) then I pick up caroline and dad (midday) then I take them to the hotel (cause dad is coming direct from washington us-sydney-tasmania) then I think we'll get food then stuff, stuff things - may visit monkey park? then dinner then pick up Jocelyn and Joy (10 pm) who, scarily enough, are on the same flight (via Melbourne) and sitting next to each other, thanks to Joy's pro-active nature. Shesh. My bet goes to dinner in Melbourne, then arriving all chummy like. Then sleep then graduate! Then i have no fracking idea what happens next - depends on the weather maybe.

| Distance |
[06 Dec 2008|11:15pm] |
I am sick of having a long distance girlfriend. It sucks. I am seeing 'lots' of t-rex at the moment - but that's such a relative term, it actually only translates into once a fortnight. blah. Today I was thinking about it. If I couldn't see the end in sight in just 6 weeks, I would be tempted to call it quits. Just say "hey, I love you, you're great, if we're ever in the same city we should give it a shot, but right now I want out because it is too damn hard doing the long distance thing". And I know t-rex is the same. Skype is brilliant but not... enough. At a certain point they just feel further away. I think I could just about figure out the total amount of time we've spent together in the nearly 18 months we've been 'together'. quick mental arithmetic: not including last summer (most of Dec/Jan), it's around 5 weeks and 3 weekends. Which is bullshit. If you include last summer, we see each other once a month on average; if you don't, it's once every 3 months. Either way it sucks. And cause you only see them for like a week/end at a time, it can be quite intense and ahhhhh! I am sick of long distance!!

| winding down |
[05 Dec 2008|06:18pm] |
|
I've been winding down with my posting frequency for a while, and I think that I'll call it quits when I move (like 7 weeks away). I'll still log in to check up on 'stuff', but I think that my lj may become a record of 3 years in Tassie, at uni. Hmmm. Will probably keep it around though. Thinking about just starting a blog - nothing too stupendous, mostly just a collection of links to my most viewed pages (generally related to design and sustainability. oh, and wikipedia), like inhabitat, interactive, transstuio, core77, designboom, butterpaper, boingboing, random other blogs as well as stuff on stumble etc. cheers!

| Wedding |
[04 Dec 2008|04:22pm] |
I went to my very first wedding as an adult. Also my very first lesbian wedding. It was AWESOME! Overwhelmingly female - like not sure if boys made it into double digits. We had rainbow themed tables (my colour was blue). On my table of 10 women: 3 married couples, 1 dating couple, me and Ozzie. In terms of the small lesbian world, many moons ago (2005) Loki put an ad up for a pirate boy, instead we met 2 girls. One of whom was on my table, as she is now married to another friend (who has an ex who dated a friend who has another ex that used to car share with t-rex...). They live in Canberra, so hooray for new/old friends! Also caught up with Roozi and his new boy who are also in Canberra. There was much discussion of the merits of childcare, as I was at the "mothers with 2 y.o" part of the table. Saw a stack of people I ain't seen since Shannon's farewell (and then maybe 3 years prior to that). Great night though. I am excited about the Canberra connections though. So far: Gemma, Rachel, Roozi, Peta, Patricia, Liz, Alicia, Claire. Half time (sitting weeks) includes Jo, JK, Ben, and a few more as well. w00t. Way more than I knew in Tassie!

a friend and I are putting together a competition entry for a skyscaper. We went and spoke to a professor about getting help from the school (basically borrowing a couple of computers to render and an occaissonal informal crit - turns out we may be eligible for a summer research scholarship grant. $3000. No-one else has applied, there are 6 up for grabs... Any other hot proposals? Must be architecturally related and able to be completed within 6 weeks.

| And the winner is.... ??? |
[27 Nov 2008|10:22am] |
So I started antibiotics, but my throat didn't improve much, so I went back to the doctor, as instructed. My tonsil had worsened in appearance, to look like a glandular fever tonsil (1pt gland, 0pt bacteria) BUT if I had glandular fever, the antibiotics should have (more than 90% chance) given me a rash. (1pt gland, 1pt bacteria) BUT if I had bacterial infection of this magnitude, I shouldn't be this 'well' (2pt gland, 1pt bacteria) BUT the antibiotics may be reducing the infection, thus making me appear/feel better (2pt gland, 2pt bacteria)
Off to do a blood test please. And the winner is.... BACTERIA! Come on down!! So continue with my antibiotics, and hopefully be all better soon.
